Another E60 M5 red cog of doom
Discussion
My turn this morning - red cog came up and went, then the yellow. The car's not in gear, won't go into gear and the engine won't restart. I managed to coast into a handy petrol station. BMW Emergency Service duly turned up and read a load of codes relating to the SMG. They tried changing the relay (the salmon-coloured one?) but this didn't make any difference so it was a quick tow to the local BMW dealership 100m away. There's no sign of the pump priming like there usually is.
I'm covered by the comprehensive BMW warranty so will see what the garage discover next week.

Considering it happened on a Saturday, I'm pretty satisfied with the efficiency and had a loan car sorted through Enterprise 4 or 5 hours later.
It's a diesel vauxhall insignia (somewhat optimistically SRi badged) that sounds like a Ford Transit, however it's wheels and no complaints there. First car with a manual transmission that I've driven for 16 months too

Update for anyone interested - gearbox is now out and the cause is seemingly a clutch slave cylinder failure/leak which has distributed fluid everywhere.
The good news is that it's all covered under the warranty, including a new clutch and flywheel due to damage as a consequence of the mechanical failure.

Definitely a good result getting a clutch and flywhweel - silver lining and all that! The good news is that it's all covered under the warranty, including a new clutch and flywheel due to damage as a consequence of the mechanical failure.

I'm pleased to say that my car is now back and in rude health once again. I have a £250 excess on my policy but don't begrudge paying that considering the costs of parts and labour that have gone into getting it back on the road.
Been told to take it easy for 500-1000 miles with the new clutch. Due to the amount of time I'm travelling overseas at the moment that might take a while to do.

My 07 with no warranty and a massive* 74k on the clock and have another 1000 mile road trip starting in a few hours; boot loaded; roof box bursting; 3 kids and wife at the ready (sleeping) will have a tow bar fitted on return for a better bike rack to save the boot mounted one i have on there.

Just today I've started getting a s
tload of yellow cogs (and even an engine fault) light on the check control
Clutch is blatantly slipping like it's covered in grease or something too, just won't really engage.
Have already dropped it off at BMW but they can't look at until Monday. I really hope that whatever it is is covered by the AUC warranty, only had the car 4 months :/
