Boring question but;

I am fitting MegaSquirt and want a neat coil pack installation.

I believe the ones that fit behind the plenum are the least intrusive, which ones are they?

Don't you have to use the ford edis ones with a mega squirt ?

I use a pair of cerb/ Citroen ones on my emerald install iirc the gems ones come on a mount on the plenum

They are P38 rangerover ones but will be a tight fit on a chimaera, I used the early ford type which are pretty robust but expensive compared to the newer type.

I believe mine are stock LR, and are tucked away behind the plenum Peter. If you have a look at my piccie in the show your engines thread (last page?) you can see the HT leads disappearing round the back of the plenum smile

These sound like the ones I need then.

I too have the p38 packs behind the plenum,

The pros

Looks neat

The cons

They are expensive , and you cannot buy the coils separatly if one fails

That said u can get them on eBay.

Peter your only locked into the Ford coil packs if using EDIS 8 and Slideways the 1st generation Ford coil packs are not just robust they are bomb proof never changed a failed since production unlike the 2nd gen coils rolleyes progress i guess and the fact Ford put the price up when they found out they was troublesome.

What the hell's Edis8?

I have put the engine in this morning and have just been clicking on all the connectors of the new loom.

I am waiting for a TPS, stepper and air temp sensor.

I also have to run a vacumn pipe to the ecu.

so........................Edis8?

Right, I've sussed what Edis8 is!

So..........if I use the rover P38 packs behind the plenum, how do I onnect them up to my new loom?

There is a multipin conector on the new loom, does this plug straight in?

Daz, you should be proud of me asking these basic questions smile.

That's because you are using pattern and not OE Motorcraft possibly scratchchin I would rather use a £5 scrap car OE s/hand Ford/Motorcraft coil pack than a new pattern part wink I am that convinced of thee OE reliability that failure will be down to poor location i.e excess heat/vibration or wrong switching/dwell times frown

I like the idea of Ford reliability Simon but I also like the idea of the coil packs behind the plenum!

Is there a best of both worlds?

Just before you go hanging coils behind the plenum, bear in mind that area gets rained on in the prettier cars smile

Yes Peter wink these are more reliable than the 4 in-line coils fitted to the RR they are regarded as unreliable in my trade but others on here with their after-market ECU's have said they have not had issues scratchchin this is Ant's Griff of PH these are consider relaible-ish and fitted to Pug 306's and Citroen Xsara's adding to what Pupp just said I don't like the lack of access with this rear plenum idea on the Chimaera though.

The alternative mounting places for coils are obtrusive, no?

What recomendations?

Steady on!

Where will they fit, do I need a special bracket/brackets?
