Red rash, on the end of my....
Discussion
I keep getting this red rash on the head of my knob. It seems to come for a few days, then go away. Sometimes it gets sort of hot and itchy, other times I don't even notice it is there.
It has been coming and going for a few months now, and appears for no particular reason I can think of. Sometimes it is just a series of tiny red dots, other times it is more inflamed. Some days there is nothing there. i thought it was thrush, but it keeps coming back.
I've tried fungal cream, Travacort, and Canesten, Savlon. All seem to make it go, but it comes back a few days, or even a week later.
I meant to go to the docs last time I was home, but I'm back offshore now for another month, hoping my knob doesn't fall off.
My wife say she has no symptoms of anything at all.
Any ideas?

I was going to say this. so i will.balanitis
I had a blood sugar test a couple of months ago, just for the hell of it, all was perfectly normal. Also did cholesterol test, again perfectly normal. I shower twice a day, have a good scrub, make sure I wash all the soap off etc. We have different soaps on my ship, and at home, and I've swapped between various ones with no difference to the results.
That Balanitis sounds like just what I have, but without the discharge. Next time I'm home I'll hunt out a suitable place to go for some full tests, blood, urine etc.
And Stu, I am the ships fitter.
And in case anybody was wondering, bearing in mind where I live, there has been no messing about with other women, not in the 18 years I've been with SWMBO.

Without wishing to be indiscreet: is there any chance she would have passed anything on?
Well, this was something that obviously crossed my mind, but she sounds innocent enough. If any sort of guilty look passed across her face then I missed it completely.
She suggested I go to the docs if it didn't clear, but I never got round to it. And I actually do trust her.
I've been round the track a time or two in my earlier years and know what the major, er, anti-social diseases look and feel like, but I don't recognise this as one.

Got to a chemist and buy potassium permanganate crystals. Dissolve in some warm water in a small cup and bathe the infected appendage therein.
Not many shops on my ship.
And I don't want to ask the medic, or the whole fleet will know about my diseased knob within the hour. Discretion is an alien word out here.

Just to re-visit this, I eventually applied Canesten cream to my dongle every day for a fortnight, even after any rash had gone, and the rash went away totally and has never been seen since. So I assume it was fungal and I was simply never applying any medication for long enough to kill off the very last spores.
