Its the FFord Festival this weekend. A shadow of its former self, its now an add on the the main programme.It does seem to be a really big departure from what Formula Ford has always been about.
The engine change itself doesn't bother me that much, its more the aero aids, slicks and faux-ST alloy wheels. Formula Fords are meant to dance and squirm around on the track, they're about finding the limit of useable mechanical grip for cornering and braking.
Its a vast shift from a formula which has proven successful across several decades.

While I think the car actually looks pretty good I do think it's a shame that the philosophy of the FF car appears to have changed so much 
Don't get me wrong I like slicks and wings formulae but we already have plenty of those and I liked the fact that it sat between karting and the more full on formulae if that makes sense?

My fears are for the future of club-level single seater racing.
Many of the Kent 1600 cars are now boardering on historic and the Kent engines are getting a bit long in the tooth. my thoughts are who is going to want to race the zetec and duratec cars that have populated formula ford for the past few years - its not exactly like the class was a roaring success so can't see alot of cars floating around to continue the ff1600 type club series races??

Now you mention it that does sound very similar! Except formula V is stuck with old engines not current units which FF needs to be taken seriously.It all comes down to budget - there is not enough money to go round, there is a clear gap in the championship ladder now that FR has left the UK but if FF demands huge budgets where is the money going to come from?
The new car looks terrible in comparison to the old looking cars and the engine note is terrible too however the grids will be full/ish because of the live tv coverage. Not sure it needs the wings though, i dont know if they will be that effective with such little power, look at the GP3 cars they ran their cars with very little wing even on "high downforce" circuits.
