Kit cars that appeal to not-kit car people?

I sometimes find kit car fans a little odd. They seem to like really terrible looking small cars that look like they've melted in the back of a shed. Some anyways.

Anyway. I'm debating building a Factory Five Daytona Cobra, or a Hawk Stratos. As I think they both would be great cars if built with care and attention. What else in the kit car world appeals to non-kit car people, even though you know it's a kit and not original.

P.S. I only have a $50K-$60K budget, which is what will be required for a top job. It sounds a lot, but it will be spent over 3 years or so, plus I want to build it with my kids.

I really like the GT40, but not sure a decent build is within budget. People always underestimate bodywork and paint costs etc. Also I live in Canada so it must be available there, that's why the Factory Five is winning at the moment.

Any other recommendations?

What would you build and why?

Ha ha! I sort of agree with her TBH. If it's going to be a Cobra it'll be a coupe rather than open top.

My Mrs and kids hate 'old' cars but they loves one of these when they saw it.

Daytona looks good, and seems to be well under budget even taking into account the mustang. Also it will sound a lot better, and because of the underpinnings will be a lot easier to work on.

I did think about a 356, not sure if I can get a kit in Canada. I can get a ready built one, but I want to build it myself if possible.

I did find reference to a Subaru based RS200 recently, which I thought sounded quite interesting, but didn't manage to find the manufacturer. Bomb proof mechanicals, plenty of donor cars, 4 wheel drive could it be better than the real thing?
