Bridgestone Potenza fitting

Hi,

My new car came with Potenza all round. They seem to be a unique shape around the rim. They stick out from the side of the wheel about 5 mil. What is this for? My only guess is to reduce kerbing of alloys.

I notice one of the tyres sticks out considerably less than the others. Could it be fitted incorrectly or just a different model/batch of tyres?

The tyre sticks for that very purpose, the help in wheel rim protection.

The odd tyre that looks different is probably that is a slightly different make. Same manufacturer, compound and size etc but a slightly different part code.
