Ok, not quite as it sounds, seeing as he didn't go near my V8V.

He did however take me round Castle Combe in his V12V at the charity day for the Stroke Association.

fk me, that was amazing. I'm aware that Simon would probably (definitely) be quicker around Castle Combe in a V8V than I would be behind the wheel of a V12V, but that was incredible. I know everyone says as soon as you go in a V12V, it's a different league to a V8V, but this combination, different planet.

I now need to start saving the pennies.

I wanted to post this, not only to state the known fact that the V12V is a monster, but also to say thanks again to Simon. Everyone was wanting to go out with him, the most popular car there, and with the car out of fuel and the tires begging for the day to end, he went out to get more fuel and came back and did a couple more, last of which was me. Long day for him, and let's face it, pretty expensive day with fuel and tires, all for a good cause.

Possibly more expensive for me as I now NEED to find the money to get one.

Thanks Simon, thanks a lot wink

Ross

That is crazy fast through Camp corner, that is carrying 30 - 40 MPH through there more than my old Caterham superlight. Forget the V12V I want one of those biggrin

Hi Simon, how do you get the brakes to hold up for track work? I'm getting pad/disc deposit transfer and an ever lengthening pedal to accompany the lovely graunching sound.

It's a V12V - has CCMs.

I replaced my standard AM brakes (DB9 same as V8V) with 6 pot Brembos... Night and day, well worth it.

BR do a 6pot brake kit that's even better than CCMs (though heavier), worth a splurge.

As said, CCM's on a V12V that suffer no brake fade at all, but it does wear them out significantly on the track, just like any other brake pad.

I have to be honest, I was expecting the brakes to be well up to the job but I was getting a long pedal after 4/5 laps. I think they need better cooling for track work.

does that not still suffer from brake fade under heavy use though?

Seriously? I never suffered that at Brands or at SPA? SPA is a fairly long lap, so cooling is probably OK due to that, but there was also very hard braking from over 150MPH and no fade. Brands indy (as you know) is a very short lap and lots of braking and again, no issues.

plus 1 but on Brands full circuit. I suppose at Spa (and Brands for that matter) we were only doing 20 minute sessions then coming in but I seem to remember John saying that due to the high demand to get in a V12V He was straight in and out all day.

Either that or maybe Cockernee and Me just are not up to the job!! wink

Everything suffers eventually rolleyes

It's just how long you can keep going for! My standard brakes were cooking on a fast road drive. My GTs did not fade at all at Goodwood or any of the VERY hard road use they've had.

The BR kit has a bigger disc/pad contact area which will dissipate heat better. Also ally belled, floating discs etc.

I believe the standard Aston brakes are as used on the Ford GT and Gallardo... They should work fine, they just don't have decent enough cooling on the cars - its why they fade so quickly frown

I was on about the comparison to CCMs. If the BR system is better I was curious if they got round the fading thing.

Didn't know they were used on the Ford GT or Gallardo though, every day is a day at school smile

Brake cooling is why they've fitted that awful front splitter on the AM310quish isn't it? Hopefully should improve it.

BR brakes are bigger and so take longer to heat up, and the venting and construction allow them to cool faster. But without modifying the front bumper, which I'm looking into, they will always get hot and fade, they'll just take longer to get there!

Interested to hear that's the purpose of the front splitter on the 310quish... At least it does something functional!!
