Should you pay for pre delivery inspection ?

Mates just purchased a new car. Well it's 2 months old and the dealer says they will be charging £90 for the pdi. I've never paid anything for a pdi is this something new ?

At Nissan we introduced a £50 admin fee for each sale. It was to cover maintaining the website and getting registration plates/RFL.

It actually broke a few deals as we always forgot to include it!

I think it is unacceptable. Your friend is paying them to check a car they are selling which should be factored in to their overheards.

Surely the better solution is to just add it to the price of the car. So a £19950 car would be rounded up to £20000 with the admin fee not listed in the deal.

Tell the dealer that you charge a £250 "collection" fee to collect the car.

You pay for it one way or another.

If the dealer is going to add it to the price though I would hope they would tell you before you signed to purchase the car.

Don't alot of Car Supermarkets have an admin fee or a pdi fee or whatever?

I think it's an odd practice and don't see why the price of the car can't just incorporate any admin costs, obviously where I sell cars we have admin and put them through the workshop however that is all part of the service that we provide.

Maybe save the £90?
If here's owt wrong at collection it's still their responsibility that it's legal, safe and of merchantable quality.
If there is anything wrong tell them to fix it or shove it.

A couple of years ago a Car Supermarket in winsford wanted me to pay an'Admin Fee' just to view a car, seems one of their Buyers was using it and they 'would need to get it to Site. I could even pay over the phone using a card! Needless to say, I went elsewhere. Admin Fee on a £30k car, not likely.
