Hi all, thinking about fitting front and rear wheel spacers to my 1970 911T, just a subtle massage for appearnce purposes only. Thinking approx 5 to 7mm on the rear and same on the front in order to maintain relationship between front and rear track - I'm certain theres more to it. Any suggestions re kits that exist and do's and dont's???

I have looked at some Designtek 3/5/7mm shims, they would be for the following Fuchs wheels:
8JX15 7JX15
would i need new longer studs or is their sufficient thread on existing ones?

An 8" Fuchs is going to be a very tight squeeze under a narrow bodied car even without spacers. Does it have RS/SC flares?

No it has no flares, Guess i will gave to buy the part and try it out, thn return bits if tyres rub etc. any ideas if the standard stud length can stand being reduced by e.g. 7mm shim depth?
I see you have shephered a fine collection of cars, what is a 911T hotrod by the way? More hotrod than outlaw presumably?
My local spanner is Tuthills, how do you find them?

They've done a gearbox rebuild with LSD, full suspension refurb and geo etc on mine and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
My SC has 7&8x15s and I can't imagine them fitting a narrow body either, but a call to Tuthills will confirm

I've asked the 8" question afew times and I'm almost certain they won't fit.

7's would be max and even they might rub depending on tyre choice and ride height.

Would be pleased to learn that I'm wrong

Extremely competent technically and nice to do business with. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Caution the best policy of course, given some o the comments I wonder if I'm approaching this from the right angle, just want the wheel to fill the arch more, so maybe lowering the whole car by a given amount woul be better - i' m sensitive and want to keep an original look and not completly deck it, warwickshire roads are not what they used to be!

I've been 'cheap' in the past and learn the lesson! By the way, nice stable of cars, how does you Lancia Integrale experience compare with 911's?

Tuthills know their stuff and would be able to answer your question without a doubt. But I'm surprised 7&8" rims don't already fill out the arches completely on a narrow bodied car.

The Integrale. It was low miles but neglected car I was able to bring back. It ran well apart from some annoying niggles that took a long time to find and fix. It was an Evo 2 that had been 'got at' as it went like hell in a straight-line. But I had an 8v when they were new. What I learned was that dynamics that seemed to defy physics in 1989 are not so special 20 years later. There needed to be something else to make it a satisfying 'classic car' proposition but I couldn't find it. What was left was an overwhelming feeling of fragility. Quite the opposite of a 40 year old 911.

I sold the Integrale and bought an E30 M3 for about £4500 (although the engine was out of the car). I should have kept the latter!

A 1970 911 as standard will not take 15x 8 inch rims at rear, 7 inch is max . Unless your engine is making more than 250 hp you wont need anything bigger than 7 inch rears , for a car weighing approx 1100kg .
As far as spacers go , 5mm shim is the max with standard studs . if you use shims thicker than this eg 7 or 10mm , you should have longer wheel studs fitted . You need the bolt on spacers to go even bigger , size really depends on the offsets of your existing rims.

so I may have given you a bum stear as they say, you are in fact correct and I did missquote my wheel sizes - apologies.
Thanks for the guidance all. The reason I ask about such tinkeringis (get this!)...I have actually grown a little bored of the 911. I know its satanical to say such things, hence why I need to fettle and breath life into my love for the old girl - I am resisting any paralells with my marriage!!! I only fettle in a way that will allow later rectification.
Watched the Magnus Walker film last night - good stuff, lots of similar movies to this also on Vimeo and through Fueltanktv.com for future ref.
