Having an 'I want a track car' phase, thoughts on a Clio cup

Evening all,

I seem to go through a 'I want a track car phase' from time to time and after spending the weekend at brands hatch for the BTCC final I'm back to thinking It again.

I'm a hot hatch fan and years ago I was close to buying a road legal clio cup car (the older 1.8 16v model) that was prep'd by Mark Fish motor sport and having had a couple of Clio Williams this is what I would want.

Does anyone know of any for sale? or would it make more sense to get myself another williams or similar (maybe a pug 106 rallye), strip it, cage it and go have some fun, I'm not after a tatty track car, i would want a tidy, well presented car that I could enjoy on the road at weekends and maybe show at a show or two.

Won't go far wrong with a Clio Cup. My friend loves his!

Clio cups seem to be the track car of choice around here, about 10 at every trackday I go to and keep the pace in the intermediate group respectable. Can put up a good fight against much more exotic machinery with some good tyres and a bit of suspension fettling/stripping out.

Ek4 Honda civic vti? My mates one was great at a track day we went to, just as quick as a Clio cup even with a smaller engine.

Imo a track car should be a two seater rwd. So my recommendation should be a Honda s2000 or a mr2.

My current weekend car matches that criteria but i could sell that, spend some of the money on a road legal clio cup racer and the rest on upgrading my shed daily runner for something a bit nicer.

Are you talking about a 172/182/197 Clio cup or an actual Clio cup racer (btcc support race) if its the latter don't they run some kind of sequential box in that don't think you'd want to run that on the road?

I'm talking about the racer, but not the newer ones, more the old 16 valver like this one...

see plenty on track days - they appear to run well and are bargaintastic to buy.

so....they are wrong wheel drive....so what they look a hoot to drive
