Hi All,

Typical long time browser but my much posting!

To cut a long story short my work has meant that my daily commute has reduced from 110miles to 18 miles therefore, by using man maths wink, I can get a car that uses the proper type of oil not the thick gloopy diesel! smile

I started with the M3 but after speaking with a family member started looking at the M5! Different beast I know but actually suits the family lifestyle with buggies etc!

Went to see one earlier today, 2005, Sliver, just under 40k, black leather active seats etc. but not services for 3 years! Car has done 3k miles in the last 18 months and 13k since last service.

Seller will service it a BMW MD before sale.

Three questions!

One: Would this worry you?

Two: Price?

Three: if No to question one, would you be able to get a Mondial warranty on the car?

Regards

D

Wouldn't be worried at all - as long as it's now serviced by a BMW dealer; and that should mean there's no problem getting the Mondial warranty either.

Don't forget to look at the estate, E61, for me it's the best looking iteration has bags of practicality and is super rare.

Ok thanks!

I was under the impression that it had to be serviced every 2 years minimum to get a Mondial warranty?

Am I wrong?

Is a lovely unmarked car!

What sort of money do people think for this?

'See one every day!'

I suppose that's the benefit of owning one!

Not see one in these parts for a while then saw two yesterday! That's fate an now I 'need' one!

Any more advice on the above questions?

Head says it's not right but heart saying go for it!

If everything else checks out the low miles in the last 3 years wouldn't worry me. You might need a new battery and make sure the brake fluid change is done but should otherwise be OK. For the warranty get the answer from the horses mouth - http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx You will probably need to phone them.

The service intervals are based on the way its been driven and how much fuel has been burnt. The harder you drive the more regular the services. 3 years without a check up (other than MOT) might highlight a couple of minor niggles but i cannnot see any issue with it having only done a little mileage. One thing youve not mentioned is the clutch. 2005 to late 2006's had the early SMG software which meant the clutches were more prone to failure by way of poor gear changes. Has this car had a new clutch recently? If not it'll be due soon.

Defo check out the E61. Whats your budget?

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies.

To answer some questions:-

The clutch hasn't been done. Does the iDrive show clutch wear or does that need a BMW computer?

Budget:- the right money for the right car if you know what I mean. Would rather spend a bit more and get one that's right than one that needs work/has problems.

Not looked at the estates. Really like the look of the saloon tbh.

Seller has said they'll take to BMW MD and have done whatever needs doing.

I'll ring Mondial later.

Thanks for the help/advice.

Dealer can check the clutch adjustment percentage but its no sure way of saying if its dead or not. It gives no warning either. It's good or its bad, no middle ground.

Not wishing to sound like a main dealer here, but have you looked at the BMW website recently? There are quite a few e60 m5 s for less than 25k. The cheapest being just over 15k.. They come with an AUC warranty which is bullet proof and included for year 1. Plus the car has to be properly prepared for sale.

Depends on how cheap the one you are looking at is, but I'd go AUC al the time on these cars. In fact, the Silverstone blue one which is just over 15k is really bloody tempting...... I'll bet they'd deliver it too.....

No... I love my m3. Must keep it.... Must not succumb to the e60 charms..... Must resist....

TrickyTrev :- cheers! Downloaded the BMW AUC app! There are a few on there but at the mileage I'm unsure on the Silverstone one!

Will continue to check them out whilst I decide what to do with the current offer!

It's <£20k so in comparison to those looks good value even when taking into account the Mondial warranty if it applies!
