car for interest.Otto - models.
Discussion
Has anyone had any experience of Otto? I ask because last July whilst at the Le Mans Classic I was sitting outside the tent, enjoying the local beverage, when a french guy drove up and, after introducing himself and producing his card, asked if he could make a laser scan of my car, which was parked in front of the tent. I asked why and was told that they wanted to make a model of my type of car (porsche 993 Carerra). I agreed, on the condition that I got one of the models. The scan took about half an hour or so. Has anyone had a similar experience? How are Otto-Models seen? Good quality or what?

The quality can be a bit hit & miss but overall, they are good.
Here are a few shots of my 2 faulty XR2's. They did replace them eventually.
Decal damage

Massive paint run

Chipped bodywork

I've not heard of Otto before so let me get this straight, they're resin casted models in 1:18th scale with no opening features but cost around half that of the mass producers? Here are a few shots of my 2 faulty XR2's. They did replace them eventually.

Do they come as kits at all or are they all ready built with no colour options?
I checked their website out but couldn't make much sense of it and everything seemed to be sold out or unavailable.
In any case from what I've seen they look like prime candidates for a bit of modifying, the accuracy of the models is very impressive, those XR2s looks stunning even with the imperfections.
They're curb side builts only and all in limited batches, if you like the kind of thing they do join their club, then they'll email you the next models they are going to release. Then if you're interested you can order them early - the excess is then sold via the website, that's why they are all sold out models, you're basically seeing stuff they've already done. Occasionally if demand is strong repeat batches are produced.
From otto:
Dear people, I may give you the first sight on our new partners.
We will offer, among other things, Porsche, Jaguar, RollsRoyce and Mercedes models. However, it will run not under Otto Lable, but be another product line which will be called GT-Spirit.
We will bring out classical and modern vehicles.
Resin - but further information later at the toy fair.
I can promise you that many gaps are closed

I have 2 models from Otto and both are outstanding, the attention to detail is superb. Most models are limited to around 2-2500 pieces although some are rarer. My models from Otto, £60 each.

If you are a serious collector it is definitely worth joining the Otto club, as already mentioned the models do sell out very quickly when released. It can be difficult to pre order as some collectors order 2 or 3, keep 1 and sell the other 2 or the guy who i got the M3 from purchased 25 M3's, keeping one and selling the rest.
