Hey There Folks, How are you? Just wanted to talk and get info on some hot Toyota's. Well Warm shall we say.
I've heard of and seen a Toyota Carina GTI my gosh they look good! But I don't hear much about them if you get what I mean. What the purpose if this thread is to hear your thoughts and opinions of them, as I was a toddler when I'm guessing they was patrolling the streets.
I would also like to know your thoughts an opinions of Corolla GTI Twin Cams both AE82. And AE92's.
Have you owned any of these? Or maybe driven or worked on them etc.

I used to own an old E reg corolla gti, that engine was sweet! must of been back in maybe 1997! Rot was the thing that killed that one and probably most others!
I remember being maybe 18 years old, thrashing that thing round Yorkshire, it was ace, totally abused and apart from the odd oil change, never maintained and driven with absolutely zero mechanical sympathy. Lasted ages before finally sucumbing to the rust and the mot man!
She kept quite good company as well and never embarrased (sp?) herself, often to be seen with an R5gtt, 850 T5 (that boy had money brand new T5 in 1997!!! At 18!, and no it was compo not nefarious activities!) and GTi-6, obviously not as quick as most of them but better round the corners than all of them bar the pug which also seemed quite good.
I loved mine but that was 15 years ago now and i dare say that it may not seem quite as "ace" nowadays unfortunately!

My Dad owned a Carina-e GTi for quite a few years - not a bad little sleeper as it goes, as visually there's not much difference between that and the standard saloon (so it basically looked like an unlicensed minicab!). However, while it was quite sporty for a 2ltr saloon of its day (mid 1990s), it would be seen off by most modern hot-hatches quite easily. Also, they were pretty thin on the ground even back then, so will be rarer than hens' teeth now...
Yeah I seen a Red Carina GTi hatchback for sale recently, and I regurarely see a saloon GTi that looks well bad. Its a red colour which has faded quite badly and I don't think it ever moves!
Frankly 3years ago a relative owned a AE92 which erm was in garage most of the time for the short while he had it. But when it was working it was FUN I remeber him taking me for a hoon or too. Shame I could barely see out the windscreen as I was short lol
But all in all I think they are cars that can be thrashed mercilessly with little mechanical sympathy

They are bargains though, even the cooking model CDX's or Executive.
Uncle bought one for £275 in White in saloon form, sold it for a profit after running it for 2years, not showing it any TLC.
The prices are holding now, what do you prefer a Carina or Avensis? Are there any mechanical differences?

I think the early ones were 158 bhp but the later ones became 170 or 173bhp ( as with the UK Mk2 MR2 )They are bargains though, even the cooking model CDX's or Executive.
