New Brakes for Old

Just fitted Quinny's old Wilwood Superlite 4 pots to the Griff. Couldn't believe how much bigger they are than standard. Initial impressions are that although they don't seem much more powerful, they seem to have more feel than standard. I am sure they won't fade as fast on trackdays as the standard ones.

There is also more pedal travel, but I assume this is due to having to move 4 pistons instead of one!

Have you done anything to correct the break bias?

Not yet, but I plan to change the rear disks for something bigger, but with the standard calipers so I don't have to muck about with the handbrake mechanism. If necessary I will fit a bias adjuster.

I've had these on mine for a few months now, and they are great. If any thing it improves the bias,as before when braking heavily (track days) I always got the feeling that the back was locking up before the front would.

Since having these on I've done the TVRCC day at Coombe and a BAT day at Snetterton, and they are a great way to shave seconds of your times (not that i ever time of course!)

My only problem with them, is that the wilwood pad seems to produce shed loads of brake dust, to the extent that you almost need to clean the front wheels after every trip.

K77, what was the noise level of your car at Combe? Did you have to fit any extra silencing to get under the noise limit? I presume the limit was 100dbA?

I'm going there on Monday, and am in the process of implementing noise reduction measures...

THe noise limit was either 98 or 100 db if I recall.
And yes I had to fit supertraps to get down under 100db, which bizarrely enough were supplied onsite by Merlin!!! (rat smelling)

Sorry to drag this one up from last year

How are you getting on with the superlites

Am in the process of adapting my Superlites to fit, and was searching for pad recomendations

Planning on getting Black Diamond 283mm 12 groove discs and looking for a suitable starting point on the pads.

My calipers sit about the same place as yours, I assume you have no problems with them there. All seems OK in my garage but nice to see someone has a working set up more or less the same as mine.
