Recommendations on where is 'fancy' to eat out in Edinburgh?
Discussion
Hi just a quick question and hoping some fellow phers can help me out. To cut a long story short I've been very busy with work and missed the girlfriends birthday seen as I currently reside 240 miles away and work was on an outage. Typical bloke I've promised to make it up to her and said we'd go somewhere nice. (My vast knowledge of Edinburgh dining extends to pizza express etc) So really anywhere that serves nice food, has a good atmosphere and the price doesn't match the cost of a happy meal, any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks Jake

Edinburgh has five Mchelin star restaurants. They are listed below. All are fabulous and not cheap. Much better value for lunch.
21212 is a kind of Heston Blumenthal type place, pushing the boundaries of cooking. You can have a look at the dish put in front of you and not have a clue what you're eating. Beautiful new town building.
Number One is classic Scottish fare. Very opulent surroundings. They don't do lunch. Could be a little stuffy.
The Kitchen/Royal Terrace are Scottish with a French twist. Both very modern surroundings.
Martin Wishart is fundamentally French cooking in a modern restaurant.

Lots of good suggestions. My favourite posh at the moment is The Honours which is Wishart's "cheaper" establishment. Love Ondine too, but it's all about the seafood. Don't leave it till the last second to book or you'll be back at pizza express!
I have tried Ondine too, and liked it a lot.Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles is Scotland's only 2-Michelin-starred restaurant and has just been voted Britain's Best Restaurant in the Sunday Times poll of 100 top eateries.
It's less than an hour from Edinburgh.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed eating here, however, if you do go, make sure you eat before you actually go here. It's less than an hour from Edinburgh.

I left here still hungry and grabbed a big mac after the meal!
