The black cab maker Manganese Bronze, has called in administrators.

The Coventry-based firm, which trades as the London Taxi Company, had its shares suspended earlier this month after a fault with 400 of its vehicles.

(It's the steering box, er, made in China !!!)

The firm employs 288 staff, with 170 of them based at its factory in the city.

It didn't help that the Labour government change the design requirements, which allowed Mercedes to enter the market, and, of course, undercut the British bult vehicle. Just another 200 odd manufacturing jobs that will disappear, and the last car manufacturer in Coventry. Never mind, they can all get part time shelf stacker jobs at Aldi to keep the employment numbers up.

Bad news for the employees. But I never like the style of the "new" black cabs they introduced about ten years ago. They look like something Postman Pat would drive. Boris should have a competition to design a new black cab to be built in Britain. One with a bit of style and character that also meets all the new regulations.
