Windermere gastronomy

We're off to Windermere for a long weekend in a couple of weeks. We're staying pretty central - can anyone recommend a couple of nice places to go for dinner while we're there? Anything (decent) considered.

The TripAdvisor reviews of the top places are a bit hit-and-miss.

That chap in Cartmel is supposed to be fantastic.

We're not going to have a car, so walking distance or reasonable taxi ride ideally.

A vote for L'enclume here, i was there 3 years ago and it was very very good.

The cheese board was massive and not to be missed.

the only downside was it was a GBP50 return taxi from Bowness as it is quite remote.

I can recommend Holbeck Ghyll. If you are feeling flush go for the Gourmet Meal with wines.
We went earlier in the year and it was absolutely superb.

Stayed in Bowness-on-windermere the other week.
Had a very enjoyable meal in Roberto's.

If you can get to Ambleside, then L'Atelier, Lucy's On A Plate, The Glasshouse, Doi Intanon (Thai food) and Sheila's Kitchen are all worth a visit.

The Queens Head in Troutbeck has always been a favourite of mine and will be just a short taxi ride from Windermere

Lizzie and I stopped at the Queens Head on Friday, and had dinner at Holbeck Ghyll. Impressed with both, but the service, view and food at Holbeck were simply outstanding.

We ate at Jacksons, the postilion and the village inn in feb '12, they were all great.
