That is indeed an interesting dilemma! One would logically think that the new model DB9 would actually be worth more than the old model DBS - RRP aside...

I'm sure the DBS dealer won't be extolling the virtues of the new-style engine to punters either. The '510bhp' will be all you hear, nothing about torque, knock sensing or emissions, naturally...

I would love to see the justification for that one!! In fairness the DBS name evokes more of the flagship, sporty GT car than the gentleman's DB9. However when you look at them side by side and the DB9 looks that good....... hmmmm. Also as Lewis correctly points out the new engine makes it the more up-to-date tech.

That's a bit crap. I spent about 10 seconds considering one of them thinking what a car for keepsies, last of the line etc, invent my own shade of green, and intending to still replace the engine in it with a BR masterpiece.

Glad I didn't even call them about it. 150 unsaleable generic automatic cars then showcasing all Aston's old tech.

The new DB9 has never looked better TBH and I think is the finest looking car Aston have made since the proper Vanquish.

I agree except for that horrendous sill. Whoever thought of that should be dealt with! It absolutely ruins the lines of the car from the side.

I will reserve judgement until after Harwood's ride and drive do at Goodwood, but I must admit I am not keen on the hump backed boot lid, which looks even worse on the face-lifted Rapide.

FWIW...
I had a good drive in the new DB9 yesterday,and yes, it is superb, but it is no DBS.
I have the 2009 model 9 Volante, and that is a huge improvement on my previous 2007 model. So maybe the new car is not so different to my current one. However, with 40hp more and Carbon Ceramics, and Track mode, I was expecting to be sad when I got back into mine, but far from it.
So back to the original post, would I pay £46k more? no. Whilst the S Volante was always my ultimate car, it was never £50k better than what I have.
As for Track mode, this is apparently just a tweaked sport suspension which hardens up a bit on the twisty stuff.
