Hi guys,

Just want your thoughts on what the problem is likely to be before I start ordering parts.

The OH's EP3 CTR clutch started playing up when she was driving it, and I got a call saying the clutch doesn't work. She was only a few miles away and managed to make it home. When she pulled up, stalling as she pulled it to a stop, the clutch was stuck on the floor. I lifted the pedal up and pumped it a few times, and it was ok. I have taken it out a few times, driving about 20 miles, and whilst it hasn't done the same thing, just dropping to the floor, but I have had resistance going into gear, and I have had to double clutch it to persuade it to go. I think it is a problem with the clutch master cylinder.

Checking the fluid levels, it is max on the reservoir, and whilst I can't get a good view of the slave cylinder, I can't see any brake fluid left anywhere (I have had that before on a car, it makes a nice mess so easy to spot, and you loose pressure if you hold the clutch down, which I am not experiencing).

What do you guys think?

Cheers.

MG CHRIS

Sounds very much like master cylinder fault. Not a honda but my fathers mg started playing up with similar problems as yours turned out to be the master cylinder.

Clutch master cylinder.
Pedal to floor would shift a fair amount of fluid so if it hasn't gone from the res. and it's not on the floor then it has to be leaking past the seals inside the master.

Cool, cheers for the responses, just what I thought it was. Replacing it is going to be fun as it is not the roomiest engine bay around!

Yeah same thing happened on my Corrado, but it was the slave cylinder in my case. Thankfully it was an external one. Modern cars with concentric slaves inside the bellhousing...oh dear...box off job smile

I would bleed the slave first if you can if this does not cure the problem then test the master cylinder, remove pipe to slave at the master cylinder, put bleed nipple in the master cylinder where the pipe to the slave was, bleed the master cylinder then stand on the clutch pedal, if it creeps down its a master cylinder problem, if its rock hard its probably the slave.
