Last Ford plant in UK set to close...

Not sure if a repost, I did do a search and found nothing.

Drove past this morning on my way into the office and there were a lot of workers hanging around outside (unusual in itself) plus about 4 or 5 outside broadcast vans across the road. Looks like it's another 500 jobs gone, not to mention the amount of people made redundant in the local supply chain.

Shame.

ETA - last full vehicle manufacturing plant, I think there are still some ancillary plants in Dagenham.

Engines and some research is still done in the uk.

Face it... the UK is too expensive to make things here...

No it's not, it just has to be done very efficiently.

A great shame this. The transit was a genuine game changer. Ford at it's best. Like the model T it defined a generation and influnced a host of clones and enabled small businesses. Still to be made somewhere I dare say but a loss to the UK for sure.
