Having seen the topic on the C63 and how good the finance/leasing deals are, I'm sorely tempted but was wondering it the C class is due a facelift soon. It normally follows a year after a new BMW 3 series so the time must be about now and is this the reason the c class deals are so good at present as they are run out deals?

The current C-Class was launched in 2007 and usually has a model cycle of 7 years so a replacement should be due in 2014.

The gap between 3-series and C-Class is more than a year. The BMW E90 was unveiled in late 2004 and the 204-series MB was unveiled in January 2007.

It will take the AMG another year / 18months to come out after that though.

Correct and I wouldn't be expecting to see a new model until 2014. We'll see an all new S-Class and facelift E-Class prior to the new C-Class in following with the normal model cycle.

If you're worried about this kind of thing you'll be better of with the BMW F30 3-Series as its all new and has many years ahead of it.

Another factor to consider is whether the next model will be fitted with the bi turbo V8 that is in the E63. The current model may be your last chance to get the NA V8 as I would have thought that Mercedes would have made the next C class large enough to take the bi turbo. They are different in character and its what suits you.

Anyone got anymore info on what engine they will use? I assumed the 6.2 V8 was getting binned because of emissions.

I have it on good authority that the next AMG engine to be used in the C-Class will be a smaller capacity (approx 4L) turbocharged V8.

AMG launches these days follow much sooner on the launch of the mainstream model. Look at the new A-Class and the CLS shooting brake/break: in the case of the latter, the AMG car was launched simultaneously with the mainstream car.

The new C Class is out 2013 i'm told. There's a new model, known as CLA which is a scaled down version of the CLS. They've done an AMG version and it goes like stink apparently. They're going for this new style of front end, this is the best version i've seen that resembles the actual design;

Expect the AMG version to be launched around early to mid 2014.

The new C is definitely not due out in 2013. I don't think we'll see it until late 2014/early 2015.

The rendering in the above picture is of the CLA Coupe which is out at the beginning of Q3 next year, with a 45AMG due 3 months later.

That looks amazing -hope they don't change it much from that concept. So is the CLA a replacement for the old c class compact?

No, that is the CLA, which is essentially a scaled down CLS. I was told that the front end on the CLA that we saw, will be the new C Class front end essentially.

Like people keep saying, the new C-Class is still a long way of.

The CLA will be more closely related to the new A-Class anyway and will probably slot in below the C-Class. There are rumours Audi is planning a saloon version of the A3 and BMW a saloon 1-series which would all compete.

... and today here are the first pictures of the production CLA, effectively a saloon version of the new A-Class:

Shares the A-Class interior:

Its a pointless and ugly car that answers a question nobody asked, IMO smile
