Ironically I read the title as this may SUMP up how corrupt the oil network is!

Agree with the guy above though, its suspcious but its a big money business, bad things are bound to happen sometimes when people are making and loosing those amounts of money!

Well if you have found a way of producing fuel without having to pump it out of the ground then someone is going to lose out in the end.

Wasn't there a big debate on here where many agreed that if an innovation so good came along to effectively make oil demand obsolete, then that inventor should fear for their life?

The poor guy was director of marketing. I sincerely doubt that if they wanted to "make a hit" on people promoting possible oil alternatives they would shoot the marketing director rather than those actually doing the development work.
