Hi Guys

(Sorry if this is in the worng section I though here might get more response in here)

I have a classic mini which I would like make a bit more user friendly by fitting electric opening rear windows to I currently have manually operated ones. I would like to be able to open and close them without having to climb into the back or break my back reaching over.

I understand some BMW's had electricaly operated opening rear quater lights but I'm not 100% sure.

Has anyone got any ideas how I could achive it?

I've seen it done once before in a car featured in a magazine.

Housing the motors would be your biggest problem on a Mini wouldn't it? I know the 3-series Compact has this set up

That is one think I am concerned about I want it to look neat and oem if I can do it. i like the idea of being abel to open and close the rear windows on the move

The 309 GTi in 3-door form had cable-operated rear windows. Could be a slightly retro option smile

Well I thought I'd update this thread as I've actually achived it!

I brought a pair of rmotors form a BMW E46? Compact over the weekedn my brother mangaged to work out how to get them to fit and has actually got them working just got to do a few jobs to try and tidy it up now so it look oem. I think this may be one of the best modifactions I've done to the car to date.

Now considering fitting electirc windows to the fornt but the kits are expensive so this may have to wait. THe total cost of converting the rear windows stands at about £50!!

Thanks to all who posted suggestions

Cool, now get them set up to open under heavy braking like a Veyron or under cornering like that new Huayura thingy.

Thank you sadly I can not take credit for the idea as I saw it a few years ago in Mini Magazine. THe more I think about it the more I think Rover missed a trick not doing this wiht the later Minis

Good effort on getting them working with the BM motors.

The 309 Gti cable ones operated from levers between the front seats by the way

Electric rear windows in a mini is a great idea, would love to see this. Electric fronts are a bit pointless unless you have very short arms IME biggrin

I agree with you tbh it's also something else to go wrong

ETA I will try and get some pictures of the installation if I can (it may be when my brother does his) the one thing I do want to do is to try and get it to be a one touch opperation.
