Afternoon,

Unfortunately my friend has been involved in a parking incident which has damaged her car and someone elses - probably £300 per car.

At what point should her insurance co be notified? Is she obliged to do so straight away or can she wait to see what the other party does? I think there is chance they will just repair the car outside of insurance in which case she'd much prefer to do the same.

She doesn't want to inflate preimums needlessly by involving them prematurely but at the same time doesn't want neglect any obligations she might have to inform them.

Thanks

You're supposed to notify them imediatley usually. If you're repairing it out of insurance and paying for the damage she's caused, I wouldn't blame you for not telling them though, as it'll have to be declared the next 5 years, and likely increase her premiums. Will become diffucult if the other person was in the car though, as whiplash complaints could come flying at her at any second if that was the case, so probabley better to report it to the insurer's.

Depends on her excess sounds like it might be worth repairing without going through insurance.

Saying that if shes not at fault and wants things done propertly she should have got details of who was involved and inform her insurance of what happend.

Unfortunately fault is not clear cut, 50/50 i think is how insurers will settle it.

To avoid inflated premiums, excess etc etc she is happy to pay for the damage to her car so it depends if the other party is willing to do the same.

Whiplash i think is unlikely as it was at a walking pace but you never know these days so i take the point.
