Anyone coming over to our neck of the woods to take a look at this classic going under the hammer on 28th Nov?

Auction site is only 12 miles from us so let us know if you would like a second opinion wink

If it goes for that auction estimate that must be a bargain (respectively speaking). This DB5 in RM Auctions has an estimate of £300,000-£380,000.

Not entirely relevant, but this DB5 convertible has an estimate of £585,000-£700,000 yikes Absolutely stunning though!

It is indeed race prepared

Would be a good car to convert back to original maybe leave the engine in that state of tune though.

Indeed, and it would probably cost you a further quarter of a million for the privilage!

Well tell you what dear John.....I'll buy the DB5 and you pay for the renovation of it to concourse. We will sell the car, I'll take back my capital and you can have whats left including any profit.

I can tell you at the end of it who will have A V12V and who will not!

For a bit of cosmetic on my DB4; strip external trimmings, bit of panel mod where required, repaint, rebuild and add trimmings back, I'm going to kiss goodbye to something starting with a 4 and then another 4 digits after that. If you start stripping the mechanicals, refurbishing off-body....adding parts that are no longer made, put in a new interior etc...etc...and the time to do it professionally, I think seeing 250k change hands is easily done.

If you look at the 1970's-1990's V8 Vantages, many of these were cheap as chips a couple of years ago when the DB5 starting going stratospheric. Have a look now, and rather than £50-60k for a reasonable one, they are going for off-body full refurb and better-than-new status. There are a few (particularly X-pack) which are now almost hitting the 200k mark. Have a look at RSW's site. richard has got 2 DB4's at £350k which have been on for ages. I doubt that he's got a high margin on these. I bet that was the cost - and each one is just short of 2 x average market DB4's and on close inspection, you can easily see the difference in price.

I recon anyone touching that DB5 has mucho grando cojones or pockets so deep as not to care!

I am with Guycord on this. I have a restored DB4 (from RSW) and you will be looking at 250k at least and two to three years waiting list at places like Works Service, RSW or Bodylines/Spraytec before you have your restored car back. A none of these restorers will quote you a fixed price and as parts (and expertise) are rare in this market it could be even much more 2-3 years down the line. There are big spreads on older DB5 and DB4 but provenance is everything with these cars and the devil is in the detail.
