Biggest surprise you've had from a car

I was out in a Range Rover this afternoon and got to experience the new 8 speed box. It was astonishing,it's really really hard to tell that a gear change has taken place.

It was a really great surprise, I thought it would be good but not that ggret

A world away from the 4 speed unit in my old Mercedes which gave a huge shock wave with every shift.

My old P38 has a four speed auto and you only know it has changed gear because the rev counter drops. Was this the new Range Rover that is not out yet or the last of the old? Buy one if you like it Rangies are great, better than any of the German rivals.

Took an Audi A4 3.0 Avant for a test drive a few years ago, expecting a spirited drive and came away surprisingly disappointed.

Not sure if that's in the spirit of the topic, but hey ho...

Got in my Rover at the services and it would not start. No prior warnings or anything. Bloody thing. Surprised me.

Had the same thing at Ely station the other night after a few nights away. If it had been the Jag I'd have not been surprised but it was the Skoda .... huge surprise after 150k of never missing a beat .... jump started and all well again.

A Mk1 Ford Focus that would conk out at the same spot on the way back from St Ives in Cornwall, every time I went past this layby in the middle of nowhere it would lose power and the ignition lights would come on. I would then have to coast a bit further down the road and re-start.

Never ever found out why it would do it.

I had a Holden Premier with a 2 speed Autoglide auto.
Biggest surprise is MB have a 2 speed auto reverse!
I will get over it as I much prefer manual.

Presently driving an Astra 2.0 CDTi auto rental which is another surprise. New MB autos are good.
