This may have been raised already, but I can't be bothered to trawl the archives!

What is the consensus on track tyres for a 964RS? The car is currently fitted with SO2s, however, they're crap on tracks like the ring - even after playing with pressures (running standard geo). I was considering P zero corsas. Has anyone had any experience of either these or mich pilot sport cups? I am not interested in a 'fast road' tyre, as the car is only really for t'days and sunny days, so I can afford to run a more dedicated set of boots. Have used A032Rs and Dunlop formula Rs (D-01-Js) in the past and found the dunlops to be excellent (even on extremely damp surfaces - once warm). Don't want slicks as you can't drive to the circuit on them....

Any other recommendations?

ta in advance.

I was talking to the Pirelli bloke at the Festival about the exact same thing - he confirmed that the P Zero Corsas were great but only if you can get temperature into them i.e. forget year-round road use.

Not a problem for you, but he also pointed out that they were only available in strictly limited sizes. Nothing below 18 inch diameter, which for me was a stopper since I've got 17s. I thought 964RSs were usually running on 17s so the latest P Zero Corsa probably isn't an option...

I have used MPSC for the last two years. They are excellant trackday tyres when its dry as the pressure stability is good and they are difficult to overheat while offering great grip. However they do need heat to work and IMHO are no better than the SO2's (which I use as a second set) in the damp because the water prevents the MPSC getting hot enough. The MPSC are IMHO lethal with any sort of standing water - even moderate rain.
My advice would be to keep the SO2's for when it rains and MPSC (or other R tyre} for when there is a dry(ish) line

Fergus, lots of 911 track dayers still highly rate the S02's & for the 'ring I would have thought the S02's were the perfect choice, baring in mind the weather oddities you are likey to encounter out there (esp the 4 seasons in one lap scenario) & the not insignificant long drive to & fro UK to cabbageland & back when it will inevitably be raining.

Uk tracks perhaps not the same issues, unless perhaps you do Knockhill &/or Croft from London regually

Cyberface, not wanting to doubt what you where told regarding Corsa's only available in 18" but they are available in 17" from various places including 9M and Silverline .

As for S02's I've been using these on my RS for track work for the past 4 years. It would be the only tyre I would consider taking to the Ring. Having said that I will be switching to Corsa's/Pilot Sports next spring, but only as I have a set of S02's on my spare rims.
