After being told how the lucas system works im thinking this is the most senisble route for my tiv since it seems to do all sorts of odd things, which mostly seem to be electrical related.

Apart from the MC1 cam, my engine is a stock 4 litre serp engine.

So my questions:

1. Before i do the conversion are there any mods that need to/should be done to aid performance and smooth running, like smooth bore pipe, shorter trumpets etc?

2. I dont like wiring and a lot of the kits seem to use the existing harness, which i would have though is part of the problem and it looks naff. So are there any kits that supply a new loom or part loom?

3. How easy are the kits to install, is this a days or weeks job to do?

4. Which system is best, I intend to get it setup by someone like Austec and then leave it. But I am hoping to do some track days at some point

5. Do i go for MS 2 or 3

6. MS i understand that this should give me all round better drive ability, fuel economy and power. Is that right?

Im sure there are many more questions but any help would be grateful, its all a bit mind boggling for me

If you can afford it I would talk to Lloyd Specialist Developments ... I wanted my loom *GONE* completely and a number of companies I spoke to were planning on reusing chunks of the loom which I wasn't happy about.

Lloyds put me a CANEMS in, I know they've done a couple of others for people on here and supplied (but didn't fit) a third CANEMS for someone on here that lives "up north" ... the job they did for me was very very tidy and they have been fantastic, putting up with my often stupid questions and tweaking the mapping for me if I've wanted anything adjusting.

Yep that'd be us from up North, can't speak too highly of my Canems set-up as supplied (but not, as Phil said, fitted by Lloyds in my case) and it truly has transformed the car. Even my new J Eales engine was wasted until Canems went on it. You do have to be careful as some systems don't replace the entire loom and that was a big requirement for our car.

Im surprised they did not fit a wide band lambda on your setup. whats that all about ?

They fitted one on mine but I did ask them too - it was an extra £200 ...

Yup - and you can do that with the existing lambdas if you wish...

What that's all about is I had extensive talks with Lloyds before ordering the Canems and their view was that my engine would run quite happily without Lamdas in open loop. The original narrow band lamdas from 14CUX are still in, just not connected. And I can tell you that in my case they were right, the engine runs purrfectly under all conditions. In fact even Lloyds themselves were surprised at just how stable the mixture is at steady revs, as for tickover (never the cars' best feature pre-Canems)it's perfectly smooth and consistent through the temperature range. Twin throttle plenum to come soon so I can see if this happy state changes, doubt it though somehow.

It just means its been setup with there lambda on the rolling road but it is nice to have a a wide band lambda trimming the mixture ..You can remove the narrow band and replace with a bolt ..

that's fine as long as you have no earth offsets and the sensor doesnt drift. Widebands can cause all sorts of trouble, you're better off in my experience with a narrowband taking care of anything that's not causing shunting at low load, and running direct off a nice map for everything else. If anyone ever comes across a wideband that actually just works let me know! By far the best in this respect that I have come across is the KMS ecu and KMS wideband .. plug and play and it works.

yes Use it to map then remove it, when I was happy with my map I ran permanently open loop and the car ran great thumbup no point in having the WB running a simulated NB output trimming the map unless your using a cat IMO and no point in running the original NB sensors at low speed either as the RV8 don't like hitting stoich AFR around the dreaded lurch area anyway frown this is all Cat free talk of course biggrin so I can see why KateV8 would have been given the open loop advice wink

Whats wrong with leaving the EGO on 15% .. ? running it on closed loop up to a certain rpm must be a good thing ..

Good for what? the environment your pocket what? providing you have a nice map and temperature correction etc I don't see the point in these minor trims Daz scratchchin please remember its only my view of things and what suits my needs (at the moment) + I don't use my car with wildly changing outside temps i.e warm weather use only wink

Quite right and just for clarity, and since I forgot to mention this earlier, Kate runs completely without cats. Just sounds like a big contented one cloud9
