guys
what make and grade of engine oil are we recomending for the std S1 Elise for road use ?? no track days

It's just a shopping trolley engine and if you don't do any trackdays then some off-the-shelf 0W40 should do you fine all year round.

Synthetic is nice as it's usually better in longer use, but not even required in this case if you change the oil regularly. If you don't do that many miles/year it's a good idea to use synthetic as they usually are more stable and resist contamination from low use better.

Mobil-1 motorsport oil and friends are total overkill here though. Just follow the normal oil recommendation from the owner's manual.

I disagree with the 0W recommendation, it's too thin on start up.

I always use at least a 5-40 fully synth such as Comma or halfords - which are perfectly good enough for the elise engine.
