Another well thought out proposal. Sigh.

Watch as the side roads for the commutes get further clogged as we avoid the extra tax on top of the all the other travel tax, whilst those who need to use the motorway are stuffed for more tax - all in the name of getting to work.

Meanwhile, with increased traffic councils will deploy traffic lights every 20 feet across the land and everything gets worse. Motorway tolls make more sense than this.

Or just scrap cheap tax for C02 ratings - that was always going to backfire against the government eventually.

Here is a crazy, radical thought to help the government pay for the roads - actually use the road tax on the roads. Controversial? Revolutionary? Too left-field? Probably...

Although this would benefit me its a stupid idea.

It would be to hard to police and if people didn't use the motorway it would mean taking a longer route, using more fuel and killing more polar bears.

I think the OP may have misunderstood the concept. It will be one of the following:

1) Less expensive road tax than today, for those who don't use trunk roads and motorways
2) More expensive road tax than today, for those who do use trunk roads and motorways.

I know which one I've got my money on!
