A new steam club in Bristol - inaugural meeting
Discussion
On Monday 3rd December 2012, at 7.30pm, there will be an inaugural meeting of the Bristol Steam and Traction Engine Club. The venue is to be confirmed but will be a pub in a central location
The club will be run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, and it is hoped members will feel encouraged to get involved and explore all things steam related – on road, rail and water.
Club Aims:
- The primary aim of formation is to support and promote steam vehicle and machine preservation and awareness in the Bristol area
- To educate and involve both club members and the general public in all aspects of steam vehicles
- To strive to organise public exhibitions of steam heritage both as a single organisation and in conjunction with other establishments
- To hold monthly meetings for all members to share news and views, and socialise and keep in touch
In time, once the club is established and has a large enough member base, it is hoped that we will be in a position to organise such extra activities as trips and guest speakers.

As detailed, the meeting is scheduled for 7.30pm on Monday 3rd December.
We are pleased to now confirm that the meeting venue will be the function room area of The Bishops pub, at the junction of Cheltenham Road and Gloucester Road, in the St Andrews area of the city. The postcode is BS6 5QP for those using navigation devices; if you need more information on directions or parking please don’t hesitate to contact us.
When you enter the pub, the function room is to the right and up the narrow set of stairs.
The format of this first meeting will be an open forum to suggest ideas, and ask and answer any questions as well as setting a date for the following meeting which will be an AGM. There will also be a short questionnaire handed out at the start of the night.

Last night's meeting was a fantastic success, with 20 or so people turning up in the end and plenty of new friends made, well-reasoned discussion and maany good ideas put forward to develop the club. Plans are being made for the second meeting as we speak.
Nobody specifically came up to me and said they were from PH though (and no Red Bull or tins of Birds were spotted either)
ETA - 20 people not 200 as first typed!
