Ford C-Max starting issue

On Saturday the wife's 2004, 1.8 Petrol C-Max wouldn't lock or unlock with the remote but was fine with the key in the door, she was only getting something out of the car so didn't try and start it. Fast forward to this morning and the remote works fine but the car won't even turn over, I've checked the battery and it's reading 12.3 volts, I thought this was a little low so tried to jump start it with the Disco and it was just the same, has anyone got any ideas.

Many years ago I had a similar problem with a 1.4 Escort which turned out to be the crank position sensor, however the fact that I had the issue with the fob leads me to think its an immobiliser fault.

Any ideas are are greatly appreciated.
