After my last car I told myself I'd never modify another car, but as expected I couldn't help myself and my car is booked in for a full exhaust system at the weekend nono

I'm also tempted to change the suspension but still in two minds about that.

Anyway I just wondered how many of you modify your cars? Or do you prefer to keep the cars standard.

I keep mine standard-ish mainly to keep the insurance sensible. Current E36 M3 is almost completely standard and will remain so since that's the only way they don't look like a Barried 318 hehe

I don't tend to go out of my way to modify cars, but when bits break/wear out I don't have any particular attachment to using OEM parts to replace them.

One thing I'm not keen on is cosmetic changes. I personally find them pointless.

I tend to go for things that improve performance while keeping the car looking as stock as possible.

I do but it depends on the car. The MX5, simple, basic and robust.

Would you catch me modding something like a new M6? no chance aha.

I reckon a lot of people on here are in the frame of mind that 'if something breaks, upgrade that part' which is the healthy approach to modding!

I normally like to keep my cars standard, however the Capri needs a new exhaust so it's time for something a bit louder hehe. Other than exhausts I don't really bother.

Not had a standard car yet ha.
Mainly it is just little things, induction kit for a nice noise, free up the exhaust a bit although with the Scoobs I went a bit further and did most things

I'd like to think I'd be the same but I think I'd still end up changing something as I find I get "bored"
pretty quickly.

Serial car modifier here since '99 when it all started with a Renault 5 GT Turbo, and each car i've owned has been tweaked in one way or another.

Saying that though, i've managed to restrain myself with my 205 GTI, with only a set of Morette headlights and the standard alloys painted black, in addition to the dealer fit Puegeot bodykit & optional reflective rear boot panel, already on the car when i bought it.

My Focus RS is right at the other end of the scale though as that's quite a fair way removed from standard now hehe

Not really, but when the exhaust on my car rusted through I replaced it with a sportier one.

Very happy with it but not sure I'd do anything else to the car. Can't help but think it's be money better saved and put towards a better car in the future.

I can't help but look at cars and think that could be improved in my eyes / use. Don't think i'll ever stop making the odd alteration. No more big projects for me though. Reading the Porsche Exclusive book, they always expected owners to want to make modifications why the modern option lists are so big.

I'm not really sure what 'standard' is.

Yes, sadly. That's why I have no money - keep spending it on repairs for blown engines.

Yeah. Wife's Mk2 Astra and Nova are lowered with 308 and 288mm front brakes under Cavalier Turbo and Cavalier SRi wheels. Mk2 Astra has CD interior, Nova has her old seats from her 30k miles SR. Both have electric windows and remote flip key locking conversion. Mk2 has electric heated mirrors.

My Mk4 has cruise control, Omega variable wiper delay and electric mirrors added, and a stereo that still uses steering wheel buttons and dash display. GTE has remote locking and rear head rests.

I do like to tinker a bit above and beyond normal repairs and servicing, as I honestly find I don't need to very often, hence why I've stuck with the Griffin (Wyvern?).

I've had a few projects, a 2.0 16V Nova, a Mk3 Astra from a 1.4 auto to a stripped out 2.0 16V, and a Mk3 Astra Sport (Ecotec) with a tuned GTE 16V engine in.

Hankering after a project involving a V6 at the moment, the noise they make is superb!

All my cars have been modified in one way or another. Pick any combination of brakes, suspension, cylinder head, ECU mapping, air filter, turbo, exhaust, wheels, interior - they've all had something changed.

Bought mine reasonably modified (single turbo conversion, exhaust, ecu, brakes, suspension, wheels) and I've just stuck bigger injectors in and had it remapped. Tremendous fun, before, during and after.

It all started with my stock MR2 Turbo about 6 years ago. I was adamant I was going to leave it as Toyota intended, but got tempted by £20 manual boost controllers on eBay and cheap alloys on the owners forums, and it kinda grew arms and legs from there on in. I can't imagine not modifying a car now.

I have never driven a car which can't be improved in some way, so for me it's every single car I have owned. Always stuff like suspension, brakes, power or power delivery.

They are always massively improved and I enjoy it as much as owning the car itself.
