Has anyone done a rear brake upgrade ? I have a 99 car and just fancy something a bit more than just the pads and disc's change.
Cheers

Yup, but you'd need to upgrade the front's first if you didn't want to arrive at every corner going backwards.

I'm running the Compbrake 300mm Cosworth kit on mine...

what pads are you running at the moment? Upgrade the pads to something like DS2500 and it makes a massive difference I've found in the past

Im thinking a bit more like a bigger disc, as well as better pads..........
I thought I saw on here about a year or so ago ?
That there was a ford caliper that needed a slight adjustment to fit and a bigger
vented disc could be used ? I wanted to keep it simple ish ...... as math is not my strong point either !

It's me, I'm running the 300mm Compbrake kit and that's how I reached the conclusion smile

Apologies for the epic thread resurrection but I am attempting to fit the 300m rear brake upgrade and I cannot seem to wind the calliper piston far enough back to accept the new discs and pads. I note the discs are 2mm wider than OEM and a mention of a calliper adjustment required in this thread, does anyone know what this adjustment is please?

Hallo Matthew,

try to swap your discs for 20 mm width.
Made several of these kits over the years and 22 mm is too tight a fit.
Calipers are designed to take 20 mm discs anyway

Regards
hans.

To get out of trouble so to speak, you could get the pads wear face reduced by 1mm each side.

Hallo Hans, hope you are well.

Thanks for the info, it certainly looks that way, I will go for 20mm next time around.

Thanks Rob, I think this is what I will end up doing. Seems a shame to scrub off pad material but needs must!

If you are in no rush, you could get the caliper casting and piston machined. 1mm off the piston and 1mm off the casting opposite the piston face?

That is good idea.

I think I am going to take 1mm off each pad just to get the car back on the road as I am itching to drive it. I have also just had the callipers rebuilt and painted so not fancying machining them at this point.

Very smart and clean smile.
If I'm wrong I apologise but the shiney bolts holding the caliper to the carrier. If they are stainless steel unfortunately they are not suitable due to low sheer strength. If they are new shiney steel with 10.9 on the heads then they are perfect smile

Very good point, thanks for highlighting, I'll check with the guy who rebuilt them. They look stainless to me.
