Need For Speed Most Wanted
Discussion
What does everyone reckon to this?
I'm getting quite tempted to get it in a couple of days as it looks like a lot of entertainment. More so than Horizon in my eyes due to the added element of the police, and the fact that the cars seem to react better to the environment they are in, with dirt for example.
I remember having a lot of fun bombing around in a Carrera GT in the original Most Wanted. I'm hoping that the new one will be similar.
There aren't too many reviews of it, which is slightly concerning, considering that its released today in America and a couple of days time everywhere else.

Someone showed me this the other day and unfortunately, the consistent use of boost/NOS alone was enough to put me off.

However, I'm only going on the trailer videos and snippets released so far and after my initial reaction to the Horizon demo, I'm now a complete convert.

I've pre-ordered as Criterion know how to make a really fun racing game.
What else have Criterion done? I recognise the name but can't put my finger on it, it wasn't Burnout was it?Steve Evil said:
It was yeah, they've done all the Burnout games and more recently did the last Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit title in 2010. Last year's NFS was called 'The Run' and was a bit crap, they weren't involved there.
Did they make Hot Pursuit? I loved that game, was addictive the way you kept levelling/unlocking seemingly endless amounts of cars, and the challenges just didn't get boring for me as you could switch between being the hunted or the hunter. May have to take a look at this, could be the remedy for the disappointment of Horizon..
Few reviews up now:

Seems it's mainly geared up for multiplayer. Not sure what to do with my order really. Will probably keep it.

How is the handling in this game?
I picked up Hot Pursuit last year after all the hype over it & knowing that Criterion were behind it (I've loved the entire Burnout series).
However I only played a few hours of it - I just couldn't get into it, the handling of all the cars was so bizarre. It wasn't sim-style, obviously, but nor was it traditionally arcadey (ie slidey), nor was it on-rails grippy. I just felt like I couldn't ever predict how the car was going to act in any one corner, it drove me mad.
I get that lots of people like these games, so basically, is the steering feel very similar to the last one? I imagine it probably is.

I know what you mean about HP I couldn't get into that either and a few days after buying it traded it in. I picked up Hot Pursuit last year after all the hype over it & knowing that Criterion were behind it (I've loved the entire Burnout series).

This game feels very different to me though from what I have read it is based on the same handling model as HP. It is definitely slidey but cars do feel different to each other.
If you want a predictable racer though go out and buy Forza Horizon. I have both Forza is definitely a better racing game but NFS is very entertaining especially online.

I bought this on Friday and really wanted to like it but it keeps getting choppy whenever you've got a lot of cars on screen at once which is exactly when you need it to be fluid and responsive.
All versions, even PC are locked to 30 fps. Shame because the visuals are quite stimulating, certainly more of a "action racer" than Horizon. I was expecting more of the game types from the old Most Wanted, but this is quite different. AI is crazy aggressive and even a little roller skate ramming into you will feel like you have just been side swiped by a oil tanker. Disappointed it doesn't have speed traps, bounty challenges. Just 5 races per car, unlocking "upgrades" as you progress.Handling is strange, neither sim or arcade just doesn't feel right. But I've never liked any Criterion games. Why did EA have to destroy my childhood video game series with this long, drawn out and painful death. I wanted to like it, but glad I didn't buy it.
