My 911 has started making expensive noises, so have just bought this to smoke about in this winter. Always fancied one, and am quite excited.

The only problem is, I know nothing about them other than a bit of internet research and am catching a train tomorrow night to drive the car back from Liverpool to Brighton!!!

before I hand over the cash, is there anything I should check that would be a walk away job, other than it goes and stops?

300 24v.......nice
Head gaskets are more prone on the 24v than the 12v but it's not like they go as regularly as a K series!

Check the heat wrap/insulation on the loom from the cabin to the engine. If this looks shonky they can cost a few hundred, so check for any electrical niggles and see what he says about anything that he's describe as intermittent electrical issues. This doesn't affect all of them but if it does develop a fault it's about 700 for a replacement loom.

Ignition control modules can be one to watch for. Rare used and still 400+ when they come up, but allegedly over 2k new from MB!(That figure is second hand info but a very reliable source)

All that said, it looks like a nice enough car. Front wings are bolt on if needs be too, which is handy for grot. I personally wouldn't touch the lights, indicators..........nothing. Cheap smokers only remain cheap if you avoid the urge to tinker (Been there with an E38)
