My Chimaera is parked on my drive, under a car cover (Weathershield) 95% of the time.

Due to the recent weather, it hasn't seen much use and I noticed when I took the cover off this weekend, mould had started to form on the roof. I have cleaned it off and let the car "air" overnight, but it will be going back under the cover tonight.

I did clean and treat the roof with the Autoglym Cabriolet Maintenance Kit (cleaner and waterproofing treatment) in August. While I can do this again, is there anything else I can do to try and prevent the mould from building up over winter? I assume this is due to moisture being trapped between the hood and cover.

Thanks

some covers claim to be breathable, but always suggest a good airing for the car once a week.

thats about all you can do

You could lay something on the roof to create an air gap between the roof and cover, say a few thin strips of wood, but you'd have to make sure whatever you use has no sharp edges which will wear through the cover.

Perhaps some lengths of guttering, placed upside down with the curved part uppermost?

Sounds like the cover is not as breathable as they claim.

I leave mine under the cover almost all of winter and don't have a problem.

Also, a good addition would be a humidifier in the car as well. I did not do this with my first TVR over its first winter storage and ended up having mould on the interior - a Tuscan. Added a dehumifier, not a problem since.

Thanks all. I shall see what I have at home that might be suitable, I'm sure I have something that would fit.

I haven't noticed anything in the cabin so far, but I assume I would need to plug the dehumidifier in?

Nah, just buy a standalone pack that absorbs water from Halfords. Refills cost about 3-4 quid.
