car trailer rental ?
Discussion
not sure where to put this TBH - but it is for a porsche so...
Looking to rent a trailer for transporting a 996 GT3 for the weekend of the 17/18th November, ideally around the Herts area
anyone got one to rent - or have any pointers where to start looking ?
recently moved to the area, so not that familiar with actual locations yet !
thanks
David

Can't help you with where to rent a car trailer, but let me offer some cautions.Looking to rent a trailer for transporting a 996 GT3 for the weekend of the 17/18th November, ideally around the Herts area

Be sure before you rent the trailer the GT3 will fit. When I rented a trailer for my Boxster I had the Boxster with me and tested that I could get the car up the trailer ramps and onto the trailer without anything dragging/hitting something.
Be sure the clerk at the agency shows you how to properly connect the trailer to the towing vehicle, hook up all the lights, and that all the lights work. My pet peeve? The trailer turn signal lights are revered and the driver signals a left hand turn and the left hand turn signal on the towing vehicle blinks but the right hand turn signal on the trailer blinks.
Be sure you have a properly secured safety chain.
Be sure you have the proper hold downs -- they should come with the trailer -- to hold the car in place. I used the canvas webbing that goes over the tires and holds the car securely.
But you still want to use a backup safety chain to secure the car to the trailer just in case.
Be sure the trailer tires are in good shape and properly inflated.
If you are going some distance -- I towed my Boxster 2K miles -- at very stop (fuel, bathroom, food) check the trailer tires for signs of low pressure or other problems.
Double check your car's insurance covers the car completely while on the trailer. What happens if you walk out to the tow car and find the trailer with the GT3 missing?
Sincerely,
Rockster.
Helpful hirings in Thame, Bucks, may not be too far from you. Very 'helpful' guys. I use them a lot.

Yes you are right you need to back a 996 gt3 to keep the weight to the front of the trailer since the engine is in the rear. From bitter experience also get the back as near to the centre as possible while keeping the front wheel on the trailer. If the weight is not balanced on the trailer it will weave badly at 60mph
Given the weight of the 996 gt3 you will probably end up with a twin axle - essential since any blow out on the trailer means the trailer will be easy to control with three wheels rather than one
For my race car with 100mm clearance I have 2.4m ramps to ensure it does not catch.
