Fans

I've got a 98R 4.5 and, as its fitted with a/c it's got two fans behind the radiator.

However, I've only seen the nearside one running, never the offside. This has been both with and without the a/c running. With today being so hot (relatively!) I thought I'd take a look when I got home.

Anyway, does anyone have any comment? Are they supposed to be staged, so that one comes in at xdeg and the other at y? Or is it just knackered?

Both mine come on at around 90 degrees

I think they are staged,if the first one doesn't do the job then the second one comes in later.

Mines a 98R also, just seen this post so thought I'd try it out. Passenger side fan came on at 95 and drivers side on at 100 degrees. As the temp dips below 100 driver side fan switches off, when it dips below 95 passenger side fan switches off.

Hope this sheds some light.

Pinkney -- you are absolutly correct. That was exactly the behaviour exhibited by mine, after the connector was cleaned...
