I only went and did it, I bought the new Vantage V8 offered on a deal too good to miss.
So now I'm curious about insurance; the friendly salesman put me in touch with the broker 'lots of his client use'. The quote was double that of the meerkats best find (Admiral). The cover is identical except the explanation that the brokers quote was with a company that would use an Aston Martin garage for any repairs in the event of an accident... is it worth it? My wife's logic is that any repair would have to be with Aston parts, and is their body shop really any better than any other?

Can anyone advise? The difference is about £600 a year.
Cheers

Not worth it, you can choose where your car is repaired anyway. Congratulations btw.

Hi and welcomesmile
You will have to say more about the V8 you bought, it's compulsory. like colour, options, and of course pictures when you get it - when is expected date of delivery?

Insurance frequently pops up on here and Admiral multi car seems to be the cheapest generally. I myself have used multicar since getting the Vantage, and I have found their service excellent. You have to watch the renewal though, be prepared to negotiate it a bit with them! I've saved a small fortune with them!

The rest depends on your own preferences.some on here like particular brokers. That's usually those who bank at Coutts and frequent gentle men's clubs ( we no, not THAT kind!).

If search is working give it a whirl, lots of info for you to research.

Best of luck with the car, I can tel you you will not regret it!

AFAIK it is your right to use a garage of your choice for repair as long as they're insurance registered (which most are).
I've just had some insurance work done on mine by Works Service. My insurers wanted to use a local bodyshop but I insisted. The only downside was that they wouldn't provide a courtesy car if I didn't use their recommended repairer. (In the end the third party's insurers admitted liability so they gave me a hire car anyway). Incidentally my insurers are Esure. They also initially handed my claim over to a dodgy third party company who wanted me to have an Aston Martin loan car on a credit hire agreement. After a quick Google I declined!

I'm sure Works Service is probably about the most expensive place you can go, but that's because it's probably the best! I've had some real problems with generic bodyshops in the past when getting work done on Porsches.

One thing with insurance - it's all fine and dandy going with the company that offers the cheapest quote, but you may regret it if you ever need to make a claim!

When I bought my new Vantage back in August, I did a lot of shopping around and the best quote was from Admiral. This was an additional car to our household, but I couldn't use their multicar offer as it was my first business with them. There was approximately £900 difference between the highest and lowest quotes I received. It definately pays to shop around a bit.

Chubb Masterpiece.

It's not cheap but personally i wouldn't use any other company. Unfortunately I've had to use their service and found them to be superb.

And i'm a fussy git.

This forum is great, everyone's so friendly and helpful, it's really appreciated.
I've used Admiral a few times before, I tend to rotate to avoid the massive hike at renewal time, I think I'll probably go with that.

I paid the money today, and will collect on Friday, or Saturday bounce Apart from buying my house (which was with the banks money!) this is the biggest purchase of my life. I've spent the day feeling really excited, but a hint of nerves too.

So, the important bit, the new addition to my family is a Vantage V8, Meteorite Silver with manual gearbox. They are swapping out the red tail lights for crystal clear loveliness. Options on the spec are:
High spec alarm
Bluetooth
Black calipers
Cruise control
Bright finish grille
Piano Black veneer
Bright Grille
Front Parking sensors
700W stereo
Memory and heated seats
Sat Nav (Garmin)
Auto dimming rear view mirror
V Spoke Graphite DT wheels

There was a suggestion on a different thread that I wait for a Sports Pack option but TBH this is enough of a sporty car for me and the deal was very good. I got locking wheel nuts added to 'seal the deal'.

It's too long to wait nuts

Just wondered what the thoughts are on gap insurance and the wheel protection scheme, I've never bothered with this stuff before, but nor have I ever bought an Astom Martin rotate

PS Coutts will have to wait until I win the lottery this weekend wink

You can get gap cheaper on line if you really want it. The wheel insurance etc is a way of them pick pocketing you in my opinion. I made the mistake in a moment of rashness of taking out the chip insurance. Wouldn't do it again!.
Car sounds great smile

Suppose it really depends on whether you're going to have an accident in the next 12 months. I've decided not to have any accidents, so the way the insurance company handles accidents really doesn't interest me. wink

I had the same thing, the sales chap recommended Locktons (which is what a few on here use and to be fair swear by them) but they wouldn't insure the missus, something to do with lack of sportscar experience so went with a similar policy with Academy costing over a grand for the year. This year confused.com came up with Admiral at half the cost so I signed up, FWIW I'm not planning any accidents either...

Nice one...don't forget pictures..... It's the law smile

Insurance, I went with A. Mannings... Might be worth a look.... I can vouch for their cover, based on a nasty TVR related incident about 8 years agofrown

As for wheel, tyre, gap etc... I've never bothered, but in saying that, I've just picked up a very nasty cut in the sidewall of a rear tyre....so that's £260 quid down the drainfrown....but, it's my first tyre related issue on any car in the last 15 years, so I'm still quids in...smile

I've gone for Admiral for three cars, and just renewed.

Multi-car does make it a bit of a pain at renewal time because you have to get multiple renewal quotes and combine them to see where the best deal is.

The key to renewing with Admiral (and all the others that charge a penalty for not being vigilant) seems to be to get their renewal quote, then go online before they auto-renew it for you. Get a quote from Admiral for the same cars, and save about £600 off the price they originally quote. They will do a price match with themselves, can you believe that, it's like "damn, you found us out, OK we'll drop the loyalty penalty and charge you our normal price"

Incidentally, they only added £30 for the BR upgrade, which I thought was pretty good.

Why did you need them to insure your wife, Jase ???

Surely she is insured to drive your Aston - 3rd party only admittedly - on her own insurance.

Furthermore....how did I know her name was Shirley confused

Don't know if any insurers do that any more, I'm certainly not covered by my insurance in anyone else's car

I'm with Locktons. My wife is on the policy (no specific questions asked when I took out the policy)also my 28 year old daughter is covered to drive so long as she is accompanied by either myself or my wife. But I am very old!
