Hi guys and girls.

I was wondering if anyone had a rough idea of how much (or more importantly) how long it would take to replace the Engine Coolant Hose on a 55 plate, 1.4 diesel zetec Fiesta?

The garage have not only done the work without letting me know the cost, but they are trying to charge me £470 for parts and labour which seems a lot to me but I have no evidence to challenge them with. He seems to claim that taking the old one out was a massive job involving removing loads of plastic and going under into the manifold and finally the engine block.

Now all this means nothing to me so I was hopeful someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to counter this.

Cheers for any help.

Duncs.

I suppose it would depend on "which" hose too.

But for £470 id of wanted the lot changing. The engine is not hat big really is it.

I had my garage investigate and repair a water leak on the daughters 1.6TDCI, it turned out to be the thermo housing, fitted and repaired for £100.

I've had the head off one & can't think of a hose that's that difficult to change, was it a main dealer??
What was the breakdown in costs of parts & labour as some coolant hoses can be very expensive

Get quotes from other garages and go back asking why theirs is so expensive. I'd expect a full set of silicon hoses for that.
