JUst shows what a vacuos media we have where this is not front page news. The guy is a true hero in the truest sense of the word. If we saw more of this sort of selfless acts the world would seem a better place.

Words fail me when it comes to this inspirational man. How many other athletes would have given up a potential victory to help someone else?

I'm struggling to think of any - indeed not even sure that I would have done what he did.

The man is a nothing but a true superman who deserves nothing but praise even though he probably doesn't want it.

There are many people in the world who could learn a thing or two from him.

Sports personality of the year? Sport personality of the decade as far as I am concerned.


PH'ers should now start to bombard the BBC with emails regarding giving this inspiring man an award. Forget all the nonsense that will surround premier league footballers being 'hero's, role models, etc etc etc'.

Because most of them are not fit to be even be in the same room as Alex Zanardi.

This man is a true inspiration & his achievements should be celebrated.

I know that there are plenty of other disabled athletes who all have their own stories however there is just something about the way Mr Zanardi has dealt with his injuries that make just a little bit more special.

So for me that is only one contender for Sports Personality Of The Year.
