Scrap metal - ID and payments advance warning

I went today as I occasionally do to weigh some scrap in, OK it's hardly worth it but it's closer than going to the tip and at least I get a few quid for it.

Anyway, this time I had to produce photo ID and the guy said that from 3 December they will only pay by cheque or direct debit, not cash.

Not certain if this applies everywhere, but may be worth people knowing so you don't get there with a car full of stuff and then can't be paid.

It's to try and prevent the undesirables from nicking the lead off the church roof and flogging it. Think there is also an ulterior motive as it will also mean that builder's, plumbers etc won't be flogging off recovered metal and not declaring it as income to the tax man.

I cant imagine it will make a blind bit of difference if you know the right people lol ...

In the same way that cars without catalytic converters still get MOT's every year!!
