Just offered the ATC induction kit up to the car to check the fitting. It looks way too big for the car. A leaflet supplied does say some trimmimg of the flow meter to filter may be required but by the looks of it I need to trim around 2 inches off either end of the plenum to flow meter pipe and a further 2.5 inches off the flow meter to filter pipe plus more trimmimg on the front of radiator pipe. Before I get the saw out and and start trimming like a good un' could anyone clarify that the amounts to be cut off are not unusual as I presumed the kit would fit without the need tostart cutting it about. Would there be a better method or trimming the said pipes than with a saw?

I don't remember the exact amount that I had to trim off but it was a fair bit. On initial inspection the pipes really are way too big so its quite possible that you need to take off the amount you've stated. Just remember to keep offering it up as you go as you don't want to trim off too much.

Easiest way I found to do it was to put the jubilee clip on the pipe and go round this with a sharp blade. Nice and slowly and you end up with a good clean edge.

Good advice, small amounts at a time. I took a little too much off mine when I did it frown

I had to cut quite a few inches off mine as said already dont cut off in one go do small cuts and offer up in between.

When fitting the metal pipe through the bulkead i had to file the hole to make it a bit bigger.

Also have abucjet of piping hot water handy to warm up the pipe before slipping over the metal joint works much better when hot

I fitted the nose cone bit first then poked the mtal joiner through ti the engine bay and used a block of wood in the nose to hold it in place while i pushed the other pipe on from the engine bay

Thanks for the replies with some very good advice. I feel a little easier in 'trimming' the pipes to fit now....

I'd put the filter end on first and make sure its in position, remove the AFM and make sure you can shut the bonnet. When you've checked and double checked offer the AFM up to ther pipe and mark addind 10mm on, fit AFM and check - you can always trim the 10mm off if you need to. It may also need trimming more off the top than the bottom depending upon the angle of the AFM.

I stand corrected, yes it is ACT and not as I first posted. The good news is that its all fitted. I cut of about £20's worth in the end.

I have used Thermal Velocity Magmashield. Looks really smart with a carbon looking weave. Ran out of the stuff before I could do the plenum to meter section. It took 5 metres to cover the meter to filter section so I will need another 2.5 metre roll to finish the job.

I have ordered the extra tape today which should arrive in the next few days. Once I have it on I will post the pic.

As promised. Photo of the ACT induction kit wrapped in Thermal Velocity Magmashield tape. It is tricky to gain a nice fit on the pipe bends and with more patience I could have got a better job. It took 7.5 metres to cover what you see. Engine bay clean up has begun, I have a long way to go to bring the engine bay up to scratch.

Please don't think I'm criticising but I'm not convinced that wrapping the induction pipe will make much difference.

Next time you've taken the car out for a good thrash, immediately pop the bonnet and feel the plenum - such is the rate of airflow that it will feel really cold even though the rest of the engine bay will be too hot to touch.

IMHO air is passing down the induction pipe at such a rate it doesn't have time to absorb a significant amount of heat.

That said that Magmashield tape does look very smart! biggrin

I've wondered about this too, mine is partially wrapped and I don't know if there is any benifit in spending the time to take it off and wrap it?
That tape looks spot on though

I just taken the car out for a spin just before the photo, wet leaves abound, loo roll was an essential part of the clean up process.......
The tape does not come in black and to be honest it was more of an engine bay bling bit for me, if it does what it says on the tin that would just be a bonus.
Its been nearly 30yrs since I last drove a rear wheel drive and im so nervous about loosing the back end. Anyone know of available tutition in this departement ie some sort of training facility for car handling skills.
