6000 rpm - too high??

Hi, me again!
something weird happened the other day - in second, car edging towards 6000 rpm and it sort of sneezed - almost like something slipped. The revs dropped by about 500, so I changed into 3rd and carried on and it seemed to run fine, but when I tried to push it over 6000 again in second, it did the same thing. Any ideas what that could be? Where is the red line on these as mine doesn’t have one marked on the dial...
Not sure if this would only happen in second but i wasnt able to get it fast enough in 3rd to try it out then!

When the rev limiter kicks in the engine cuts out until the revs drop back past the rev limit, this sounds like what happened to you. The rev limit varies but 5600 (cat) and 6200 (precat) seem pretty common. You probably don't want to push the engine that far too often though, there is very litle performance advantage and the wear and tear increases rapidly at the top end of the rev range.
Cheers guys. I did wonder if that was the case, but couldn't reall believe that there was such a thing as a rev limiter. Do other cars have them?
So the rev range on a Chimaera is fairly small then? I thought as the dial went up to 8000 you would get more than 5500 rpm....
Thanks for the advice though, I will be careful not to push it too high from now on.

Rev limiter OH 
Mine kicks and I mean "Kicks" in @ 6000. Not much power gained after about 5500 so practice the quick and slick gear change.
Just remember all the love and attention you give the engine whilst warming up, no need to scream the ar$e of it at high revs and waste all that hard work.

Keep away from the rev limiter - nice & smoothly does it - it keeps the person in the seat next to you much happier.

Absolutely! And now that my tyres are not 50% too high the car feels much steadier cornering!!
