Hi, has anybody on here gone down the ILEx route for their legal qualification? I'm 27 and am wondering if I've missed the boat somewhat on this. I have no formal qualifications other than some GCSEs by feel this could be beneficial to my role and future changes in my industry.

Yes I went ILEx route and continued on to qualify as a solicitor - I continue to be a Fellow of the Institute. I think the question is really what you want to do with this qualification. If you already work for a solicitors firm or in-house legal team then I would recommend this providing your lifestyle allows you the time to study part time over quite a few years. If you want a career change into law then again this could help be be aware that it is very difficult to get jobs in the Legal sector (as elsewhere) so you really need to have a long term plan in place. I have never regretted going this route - like you I had A levels but not a degree and for me (at that time) it was the only way to enter the legal profession and make a career out of it. FYI I have only ever worked inhouse for commercial businesses. Hope this helps.

I did the ILEX route and found it very good but longwinded. If you already work in a law firm its a good way of advancing.I do not and never have so I now feel I would have been better just doing a Law degree.This is something I am considering at the moment.One of my exgirlfriends started the course at the same time as me and she went on to do convayancing in a solicitors office.
