Novice Trackday
Discussion
Hi all,
I want to get stuck in and do my first track day.
Ideally I'd be going to RAF Odiham as it is local to me but events there seem few and far between. I've also considered Brands, I know there is a Novice only day on the 5th of November but unfortunately I am away.
Are there any other suggestions for Novice trackdays this side of the New Year which aren't light years away?
Thanks,

Hi
I think there is a track day at Bedford on the 24 November. It is not a novice day but bedfrod is a large track and with good run off in most places and plenty of straights to let faster cars past. It is quite good value and the circuit has a bit of everything apart from hills. Some people do not like it as the track is long and takes a little time to learn. IMO it is a better venue for a first track day than Brands.
Wishing you well and have great fun.

I'd go along with the above OP, I did my 2nd Track Day at Bedford last Saturday and it was brilliant. it was very busy, but due to the length of the circuit we used (3.8 miles) it never really felt too buys out on track.
just keep your whits about you and keep an eye for anyone coming up behind you, giving them plenty of over-taking space and you'll be fine.
I'd rather do that than a novie day IMO, having experienced guys around you rather than all novices must be better, again IMO.
As for RAF Odiham, it's also nearest to me, but due to an incident there at the last Track Day (I wasn't there, I read the thread about it), it may not happen again. However, they do have a facebook page, so you'll be able to keep informed about anything happening. There certainly won't be anything happening there before Christmas.

Whilst the odds are that I won't need it, I prefer to get insurance so I can fully enjoy the day with peace of mind - ignoring your own mistakes you never know when someone might run into you.
My 330Ci Sport costs £70 a day for £4,500 cover with a £450 excess via Ryan Motorsport Insurance. When I looked around back in April (admittedly not exhaustively) they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover, as the other insurers I looked at had significant restrictions, like only covering parts not labour, excluding VAT or not covering engine damage even if caused by a collision etc. When my last trackday was washed out they allowed me to roll on the cover to the replacement date even though I'd done the sighting laps, which I though was pretty good. As they say, other providers are available!
Ditto the recommendations for Bedford. I did my first novice day there and the length of the circuit helps space out the traffic.
