Mountain bike for 6 year old boy

Hi Guys

Father |Christmas wants to bring my 6 year old son a new bike for Christmas, I have a Boardman tem pro and my son wants a bike like dads. (With lights which flash so he can be the cops chasing me as well ) .) Any recommendations on here?

Budget is up to £250.

They want £649 for the Greig 24 mountain bike!!! - a bit to expensive for a 6 Year old methinks.

My son had the Carrera blast 24" and it's a decent little bike. Not stupidly heavy like some, and it held it's value pretty well come resale as well.

Another vote for Islabikes, just seen the one my godson is getting for his birthday in a few weeks, really nice, very light and good brake actuation. According to his mum and her boyfriend there pretty good on residuals too aparrently they'll buy the bike back off you when you're done with it.

Trek MT220... Got Gretch's younger boys one each a while back. Great bikes, sturdy, and loads of adjustability for when they're growing.

They've had them a couple of years now, no issues at all.

Son had a Hotrock 16 at 5 and has just progressed to a hotrock 20. Been really good.

They might be light and have better components, but when your 6 year old son wants a bike "just like yours dad" an Islabike doesn't cut the mustard.

Certainly when I showed my lad some pictures of them he was less than impressed, whereas he was all for fking Santa off and buying the Spesh Hotrock there and then when he saw those images.

My son wants a cool looking bike, in the right colour(s) with different colour bars, grips, seat etc. My biggest battle is going to be trying to calm him down so he doesn't end up riding the bmx equivalent of this...

great spec robust but not heavy and with disc brakes only possible down side is it is single speed we cannot get him off the thing

I'm in this same dilemma. We're going to upgrade my daughters bike for Christmas. She will be 7½ at Christmas and is currently just over 1.3m tall. We cannot decide between a 20" and a 24".

If you look at something like this:
http://www.evanscycles.com/product_document/file/2..., she is already about ¾ of the way through the range for a 20" bike.

We got my 8 year old (about 120cm tall) a Ridgeback MX24 and he is the right size for it. My 10 year old (140cm) was way too big for that but the right size for the Decathlon 24 inch bike. The two bikes have totally different sized frames so you really need to try out the different bikes. She will want a 24inc whichever way but as I say the frame sizes vary hugely.

Depending on height a specialized hot rock is a good choice. My son is 7 but is quite small and he is not quite tall enough yet for the hot rock. I bought one for my daughter a couple of years ago and it's had very little use so it will be given to my son when he is tall enough.

My son has used his since 6 yrs old, and is now stepping up to 24" at the age of 9.

You may have a point there as my godson wanted a bike like mine, a neon pink Orange 5!
