Car still in warranty - door trim coming off.

Back in May, we bought a 2010 S-max from a main dealer and a few weeks ago noticed the exterior door trim was coming away from the drivers door. I had a look at the other doors, and the trim on both passenger side doors are also starting to come away.
After contacting the original salesman we dealt with, I was told trim is only covered on the warranty for a year from new and that they can't do anything - although they are happy to quote to fix it!!
Bypassing the salesman they eventually offered to do something with it foc, so left the car with them. When I got the car back, the trims had masking tape on and I was told to leave it on for 24hrs.
Removing the tape the next day, it's pretty clear all they have done is put some double sided tape behind the trim which is better than before but not quite as it should be. Most people wouldn't notice, but what I see is a small gap where the trim isn't quite flush with the door making the trim look a bit wavy. If this 'fix' doesn't last, I'm told I'll have to pay around £300 to get the three trims fixed properly.
Actually, having just had another looks at the pics, it looks like there is some old double sided tape hanging off, so it looks like it's had this problem before, unless that's how they're stuck on in the factory??
Now, I understand it's a secondhand car, and I wouldn't expect it to be absolutely perfect, but am I expecting too much from a £16.5k car with 10k miles on the clock to not have bits of it coming off? Surely the manufacturer should take some sort of responsibility for what is essentially a manufacturing defect.
I'm guessing I'll just have to try and forget about it. It's taken too much of my time already. I think I'll just stick to sheds in future. I'm really not seeing the benefit of spending extra on a newer car.

Take it down to a Ford dealer and see what they say about the issue, if it's only a couple of years old it should still be under their warranty, no?
Otherwise pull the trims off, clean out all the crappy tape and use some proper sealant on there (i.e. Tigerseal) and forget about it.
If I was the garage you bought from that's what I'd have done in the first place - just to make sure it never came back as a headache.
