After 6 years of ownership and numerous upgrades it now looks like this

Rot in the normal places plus cracking on the upper ARB mounts.
Worth nowt in bits or as a rolling project so going to have to bite the bullet, chassis should be repaired and beefed up around the ARB mounts, then zinc primed and powder coated in the next two weeks. Engine off to Power for an initial inspection then decide what to do. 70K on it and as it left the factory. Engines are obviously better than chassis!

SD Autotech at Boroughbridge.
Have the space but don't have the time or the gear to do it myself

Chassis doesn't look too bad in the pics!

The chassis has had the main section shot blasted and the outriggers left as they will be removed so looks a lot better than when first removed

Corners of both outriggers shot, also bracing next to exhaust manifolds pinholed as well as top rails in the same area very thin

Crack at the top rear ARB mount, same on the other side. One side was heavily rusted and holed also. The lower brackets had a TVR modification to the chassis which involved some of the worst welding I have seen on a commercially produced item.

Can I see there a very good basis, if not the finished article, of a Cerb outrigger replacement jig. smile

Will it be for rent, hire or sale ?

If that is another Cerb chassis under the body, how/why is there a spare lurking ? (apologies if I'm not up with the 6 year history)

Chassis underneath is a very ropey chim or griff chassis. Don't think the jig will be going anywhere as Steve is taking bookings for chassis work in 2013, theres four cars after mine already confirmed.

As for the 6 years I've had the car, bought at a reasonable price and slowly upgraded, suspension, brakes, exhaust and manifolds and a little on the interior. This is the first major work I have not carried out myself apart from the engine tweaks do by Jools a few years back. The car has been thouroughly used and abused on and off track and in the 6 years and 30000 miles has let me down once with a broken drive shaft. My wife even drives iteek

Hi there Eich. Just been reading your post and I'm sure I recognise your car. I'm pretty sure it's the same car an old friend of mine Bruce used to own who belonged to the TVR car club up in Scotland. Think I have some pictures of the car from 1999!

Hi, have a few older photo's from when the car was new and also met up with a guy who knew the original owner and went across europe with him. Any photo's would be appreciated as the car is a keeper and I have pieced together a lot of the history from TVRCC and service book.
Thanks
Richard

I owned S290 BSC from May 2003 until November 2004. Still pining for it, did a quick Google to see if I could find it and here we are :-) Fantastic job you are doing. Very happy to see it being cared and looked after.
Had some fantastic road trips, went to Le Mans twice, took it to Germany one Christmas and proposed to my now wife. Really am chuffed to see it on the road to a long life.

Thanks for those, from what I gather the car was driven across europe a few times with various owners including to Stelvio. Hoping after this latest work we can just use the car as it was meant to be and enjoy the reliability we have had over the last 6 years.

Finally got to see the car again today though no ramp was available to look underneath had to be jacked up and crawl on the floor.
Body back on chassis, chassis has had full outrigger replacement, as well as front top rails and part replacement of bottom rails. Cross bracing replaced in the normal areas around the exhaust manifolds. Shocks overhauled, but all poly bushes were in good condition. New diff poly bushes were fitted. All suspension arms have been previously blasted and powder coated by me hence the differing colours. Rear ARB mounts have been renewed totally and beefed up. The whole chassis has been blasted zinc sprayed and powdercoated. With the brake overhaul from a couple of years back it should be like a new car when complete. Engine still with TVR Powercry its rather tired acording to the report on strip down.

Can you give any more details? It's rather distressing to hear that an 80k engine is already being described as tired, but it would be useful to understand what the limiting factors are.

Intake Valves
Valve guides
Cylinder Sleeves
Cam Shafts
Piston rings
Valve train sprockets (consumables anyway)

Thanks

Looks like some great chassis work there, and will be better than when it left the factory.

As an engineer I'm also quite suprised. I have been promised pictures and as soon as I have seen them and talked to power I'll let you know. What I can say is that it was making the power it should have after a few tweaks but from day one of me buying it 6 years ago it always used a fair bit of oil.

Finally back from Power after the long running in process and the remap. Car is and absolute dream to drive, completely docile at lower speeds, masses of torque right through the rev range, instant throttle response. Looks as if there would be more to come with a change to the throttle bodies but that wasn't the plan as I wanted a car that was usable every day as well as on the occasional track day.

Looking at that, the 4.2 induction must be very restrictive?! What is the quoted/usual 4.5 torque figure?
